What Fuels You??

Hello beautiful people, I thought it was about time I got back to sharing some of my insights about the world again! I've been diving into so many podcasts, trainings and books lately, and one of my mantras for 2021 has been: "I create and consume in equal measure; I am always learning and therefore I always have something to share", so time to get creating and sharing again! I have been facing a lot of challenges as I step into more of a leadership role in my business. Everyone is so unique and different, so each person has different motivating factors and responds to different types of leadership! I know for myself, if a leader tells me to do something, and it makes sense to me, I'll just go and do it, and keep going until I've achieved whatever I set out to! If something doesn't make sense to me, I'll question it and go looking for answers until I find a solution that does make sense. I'm not really motivated by competition or recognition though, so it was a surprise to me to find out that some people will try all the harder if there's a chance of winning something at the end of it all! For myself, I'm just happy doing the thing for whatever personal gains it brings me. So for example, when I started my online business and my mentor ran me through the first steps in getting started, I was like "cool, makes sense," and went and did it. And then went and found training and resources to learn how to do things better, more efficiently, and reassurance that I was doing the right thing. I didn't need a prize at the end, other than the money I earnt each month in my pay, or the fulfillment I got from helping someone else on their health journey! Then I started to notice that every couple of months, the leaders in the team would hold different incentives, with different prizes for levels of action within our businesses, and I just didn't get it! There was no draw for me to do any more than I was already doing, or try any harder, because I didnt want a prize, I was already doing it anyway for my own personal goals and successes! But other people loved it! It got girls so fired up that they doubled or tripled their pay in those months just because it was an incentive for them to do the action! Another thing that our team is really big on is recognition, which again, doesn't really float my boat; but we're constantly cheering each other on for promotions and other little wins, because for some people, they just need to be recognised and appreciated! In retrospect, I'm actually so blessed to have a community that recognises that everyone has different drivers; all the incentives are on the table, so everyone can feel valued and loved in a way that's unique to them! The way you respond to different stimuli comes down to your personality type, and your love language; which I'm slowly learning how to work with people different than myself! For me, my personality type is red; which means I'm a leader, but also that I'm strong willed and like to be in control; and my primary love language is acts of service, which means I like to be shown love, rather than told it, or being touched, or given a gift! Someone cooking me a meal means so much more to me than a hug or a present, although each has its place too, of course! So learning how to work with other personality types and show love in a way that someone else can recieve it, is a really important part of being a good leader. At the end of the day, it comes down to each persons "why?" A prize incentive, or recognition for the next promotion, might be enough of a driver to get some people into action for a short time, but long term sustainability comes down to more than just a monthly prize pool! Everyone's why is unique to their own life and their own pain; but you can check out my IGTV on the 20 reasons why I said yes and continue to say yes to this online business opportunity! My why has a lot of layers to it, and different aspects of it pull at me each day. For example, my first yes to the network marketing opportunity was because of the idea of earning an extra income; there are no downsides to an extra income stream, and what if I could earn a part time amount so I could go part time at work!? But the underlying reason behind that was I actually needed to go part time; I needed a break from working full time with my husband, it would have had a strain on even the best relationship, and after nearly 4 years of it we both need that step back! So that was a really big part of my why, I just didn't realise it right from the beginning. And then an extension of that is the fact that going part-time would give me more time for other passions, like my horses; and again the freedom to be a stay at home mum when I have kids! So one yes flows into the next and before I know it I had 20 reasons why I would say yes, and continue to say yes to working online, even on the hard days! To me, the reward I get just in my everyday work on my business is enough of an incentive for me without needing prizes or recognition externally but I am so blessed to be a part of such a beautiful community that recognises that other people need those things, and therefore everyone has an incentive to grow to their fullest potential no matter how strong their why!

The key to staying motivated with any goal you set, or project you embark on, is knowing what's keeping you there! Why did you start? Why do you continue to show up?? What recognition, support, and rewards do you need along the way, to make it worthwhile for you!?

Once you can answer those questions, and can be provided with the stimuli that you need, to keep you in the game, you can show up, motivated, for your goals every day!
